{"id":213,"date":"2010-06-23T04:55:20","date_gmt":"2010-06-23T03:55:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdblog.cdstealer.com\/?p=213"},"modified":"2010-10-29T17:56:35","modified_gmt":"2010-10-29T16:56:35","slug":"gentoo-multiboot-dvd-beta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cdblog.cdstealer.com\/?p=213","title":{"rendered":"Gentoo Multiboot CD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I've not seen this anywhere on t'interweb so this is what I have done so far which seems to work.<\/p>\n<p>Only for arch x86 &amp; amd64.<\/p>\n<h3>Tools &amp; Files.<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"Syslinux\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kernel.org\/pub\/linux\/utils\/boot\/syslinux\/\" target=\"_blank\">Syslinux<\/a> Version 3.86 at the time of writing this.<\/p>\n<p>Grub (more commonly used)<\/p>\n<p>Gentoo (<a title=\"iso &amp; stage\" href=\"http:\/\/distfiles.gentoo.org\/releases\/amd64\/autobuilds\/current-iso\/\" target=\"_blank\">amd64<\/a>, <a title=\"iso &amp; stage\" href=\"http:\/\/distfiles.gentoo.org\/releases\/x86\/autobuilds\/current-iso\/\" target=\"_blank\">x86<\/a>) You'll need the iso files.<br \/>\nStage3 and portage archives are optional, but handy to get the install started.<\/p>\n<h3>Prep.<\/h3>\n<p>Create a folder somewhere.\u00a0 This will be the root of the DVD<\/p>\n<table style=\"text-align: left; width: 100%;\" border=\"2\" cellspacing=\"2\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td bgcolor=\"#bbffbb\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>ISOLINUX METHOD<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Unpack the syslinux archive.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">cd in the syslinux directory and run \"make\".<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">cd back into the root of the DVD directory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">mkdir -p boot\/isolinux<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">cp syslinux\/com32\/menu\/vesamenu.c32 boot\/isolinux (needed for boot menu)<br \/>\ncp syslinux\/core\/isolinux.bin boot\/isolinux (needed to boot)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">create <a title=\"cd boot menu\" href=\"http:\/\/cdstealer.com\/filez\/blog\/isolinux.cfg\" target=\"_blank\">isolinux.cfg<\/a> in boot\/isolinux (needed for boot menu)<br \/>\nput a 640x480 png image in boot\/isolinux (optional background<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table style=\"text-align: left; width: 100%;\" border=\"2\" cellspacing=\"2\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td bgcolor=\"#bbffbb\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>GRUB METHOD<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">mkdir -p boot\/grub<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">cp \/boot\/grub\/stage2.eltorito boot\/grub (needed boot image)<br \/>\ncp \/boot\/grub\/splash.xpm.gz boot\/grub (optional background picture)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">create <a title=\"grub menu\" href=\"http:\/\/cdstealer.com\/filez\/blog\/menu.lst\" target=\"_blank\">menu.lst<\/a> in boot\/grub (needed for boot menu)<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>put the stage and portage archives in the root folder of your CD. (optional)<\/p>\n<p>touch livecd in the root folder of your CD. (needed for livecd to load)<\/p>\n<p>mount each iso and copy the gentoo.efimg and image.squashfs files into the root folder of your CD.\u00a0 (contains the gentoo environment)<br \/>\nI found here that you will need to rename the files.\u00a0 I just replaced \"gentoo\" &amp; \"image\" with the arch.<br \/>\nie x86.efimg &amp; amd64.efimg etc<br \/>\ncopy the gentoo.efimg.mountPoint directory into the root folder of your CD.\u00a0 (contains the kernel and initrd)<br \/>\nAgain replacing the \"gentoo\" with the arch.<\/p>\n<h3>Create the ISO.<\/h3>\n<p>cd outside of the root of your CD folder and run<\/p>\n<table style=\"text-align: left; width: 100%;\" border=\"2\" cellspacing=\"2\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td bgcolor=\"#bbffbb\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">ISOLINUX METHOD<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>mkisofs -N -V gentoo -b boot\/isolinux\/isolinux.bin -d -iso-level 4 -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -o Gentoo.iso gentoo-multiboot<\/p>\n<p>(the isolinux.bin is in your CD root.\u00a0 the gentoo-multiboot is the name of the root of your CD<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table style=\"text-align: left; width: 100%;\" border=\"2\" cellspacing=\"2\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td bgcolor=\"#bbffbb\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">GRUB  METHOD<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>mkisofs -R -b boot\/grub\/stage2_eltorito -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -o Gentoo.iso gentoo-multiboot<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>Testing.<\/h3>\n<p>I have qemu installed but any VM will do.<\/p>\n<p>qemu -k en-gb -enable-kvm -m 1024 -cpu qemu32 -cdrom gentoo.iso -boot d<\/p>\n<p>note: Add \"-vnc :0.0\" if qemu is on a remote server.\u00a0 The just vnc to it :)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I've not seen this anywhere on t'interweb so this is what I have done so far which seems to work.
