{"id":124,"date":"2010-02-14T17:23:32","date_gmt":"2010-02-14T17:23:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdblog.cdstealer.com\/?p=124"},"modified":"2010-12-12T19:18:48","modified_gmt":"2010-12-12T19:18:48","slug":"jack-3-1-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cdblog.cdstealer.com\/?p=124","title":{"rendered":"Jack-3.1.1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jack (not to be confused with the jackd audio daemon) is a cdripper for Linux written in python.\u00a0 You can download via your package manager or from the <a title=\"Home of Jack\" href=\"http:\/\/www.home.unix-ag.org\/arne\/jack\/\" target=\"_blank\">homesite<\/a>.\u00a0 I have found on Gentoo and Fedora that jack depends on python-2.4 which is a pain when just about everything else builds against python-2.5 or higher which causes problems.\u00a0 I was forever getting:<\/p>\n<pre>$ jack\r\nTraceback (most recent call last):\r\n File \"\/usr\/bin\/jack\", line 42, in &lt;module&gt;\r\n import jack_argv\r\n File \"\/usr\/lib\/python2.6\/site-packages\/jack_argv.py\", line 22, in &lt;module&gt;\r\n import jack_utils\r\n File \"\/usr\/lib\/python2.6\/site-packages\/jack_utils.py\", line 26, in &lt;module&gt;\r\n import jack_functions\r\n File \"\/usr\/lib\/python2.6\/site-packages\/jack_functions.py\", line 222\r\n def starts_with(str, with):\r\n                         ^\r\nSyntaxError: invalid syntax<\/pre>\n<p>I had my fill of fixing this every time I needed to rip a cd, so I fixed it.\u00a0 All you need to do after it has been installed is run this script <a href=\"http:\/\/cdstealer.com\/filez\/jack-py26-fix.sh\">jack python-2.6 patch<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you look at the script, you'll see that it just changes any definitions from <strong>starts_with<\/strong> to <strong>startswith<\/strong>.<br \/>\nAnother common problem is a gcc memory leak.\u00a0 To fix this add <strong>MALLOC_CHECK_=1<\/strong> at the start of your command.\u00a0 I have added this as an alias in my .bash_profile eg.<\/p>\n<p><strong>alias jackflac='MALLOC_CHECK_=1 jack --device=\/dev\/sr0 --append-year=yes --dir-template \"%a\/%l\" -C -Q -R --rename-fmt \"%n - %a - %l - %t\" --workdir \/home\/cdstealer\/Desktop\/ -E flac'<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>alias jackmp3='MALLOC_CHECK_=1 jack --device=\/dev\/sr0 --append-year=yes --dir-template \"%a\/%l\" -C -Q -R --rename-fmt \"%n - %a - %l - %t\" --workdir \/home\/cdstealer\/Desktop\/ -E lame --vbr=no -b 320 -e 2 --write-id3v2=yes'<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please make sure that jack and its dependencies have been built against python-2.6+.<\/p>\n<p>dev-python\/id3-py<br \/>\ndev-python\/cddb-py<br \/>\ndev-python\/pyogg<br \/>\nmedia-libs\/id3lib<br \/>\ndev-python\/pyid3lib<br \/>\ndev-python\/pyvorbis<br \/>\nmedia-sound\/jack<\/p>\n<p>I edited the files below to add high quality and forced stereo.\u00a0 Just add \"-q0 -ms\" to the end of the 4 line in each file.\u00a0 eg:<\/p>\n<p>'cmd': \"lame --preset cbr %r --strictly-enforce-ISO %i %o -q0 -ms\",<br \/>\n'vbr-cmd': \"lame -V %q --vbr-new --nohist --strictly-enforce-ISO %i %o -q0 -ms\",<br \/>\n'otf-cmd': \"lame --preset cbr %r --strictly-enforce-ISO - %o -q0 -ms\",<br \/>\n'vbr-otf-cmd': \"lame -V %q --vbr-new --nohist --strictly-enforce-ISO - %o -q0 -ms\",<\/p>\n<p>\/usr\/lib\/python2.6\/site-packages\/jack_helpers.py<br \/>\n\/usr\/lib\/python2.6\/site-packages\/jack_main_loop.py<br \/>\n\/usr\/lib\/python2.6\/site-packages\/jack_plugin_lame.py<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jack (not to be confused with the jackd audio daemon) is a cdripper for Linux written in python.\u00a0 You can download via your package manager or from the homesite.\u00a0 I have found on Gentoo and Fedora that jack depends on python-2.4 which is a pain when just about everything else builds against python-2.5 or higher &hellip;
