I'm writing this as systemd seems to be getting stronger and is replacing initd little by little. \u00a0Now if like me you have one or more \u00a0Linux systems that do not run a desktop environment. \u00a0You may find yourself using a few apps that normally require a GUI to be configured. \u00a0NetworkManager is one of those, but does allow you to use the CLI (nmcli).<\/p>\n
Here's how:<\/p>\n
Assuming you already have everything installed :)<\/p>\n
systemctl enable NetworkManager<\/pre>\nWill start networkmanager at boot.<\/p>\n
nmcli d<\/pre>\nwill list all interfaces controlled by networkmanager.<\/p>\n
To add a connection eg wifi<\/p>\n
nmcli c add ifname wlp5s0 type wifi ssid <your ssid><\/pre>\nThis will create the file<\/p>\n
\/etc\/NetworkManager\/system-connections\/wifi-wlp5s0<\/p>\n
Which will contain the skeleton config (non working)<\/p>\n
[connection]\r\nid=<your ssid>\r\nuuid=b083dd98-f1e0-4bc5-bff6-56c4a1b56e2f\r\ninterface-name=wlp5s0\r\ntype=wifi<\/pre>\n[wifi]\r\nssid=1027251N\r\nmode=infrastructure<\/pre>\nWe now need to configure the connection. \u00a0(additions highlighted)<\/p>\n
